Meet Professor Lars Roepstorff

Since operating his veterinary private practice in 1985, Professor Lars Roepstorff has focused on equine biomechanics and their application to arena/race track surfaces, horse-rider interaction, and objective tools as an aid in lameness assessment.

Over the last ten years, Professor Lars and several of the world´s top scientists have developed this OBST methodology to test functional arena properties as they apply to footing.

Using these methods, Professor Lars and his team have evaluated and validated arenas for premier events like WEG in Tryon, as well as the Olympic Games in London, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo.

This testing method is so effective that it is now acknowledged as the standard by FEI, and will become the ultimate standard for various equestrian events in the near future.

If you want a healthy horse, it starts the moment it is born. It is really important to create movement opportunities for the young foals. Through scientific research, we know with certainty that the cartilage and the tendons get stronger by a foal’s movement during its first six months.

After, the cartilage and tendons are strengthened only to a limited extent. Hence, the young foals need to be allowed to move naturally over big areas on different surfaces.

Professor Lars received his Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicinal of Functional Anatomy from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Unit of Equine Studies.

He has served as the Senior Lecturer of the Equine Studies program from 1997-2011, the head of the Equine Studies department from 2000-2005, and has been a professor on the subject since 2011.
